General Michael Flynn, President Trump’s former National Security Adviser, is prepared to testify against high ranking members of the Trump administration, Trump’s family, and the President, according to ABC News.
Within the last 24 hours, it is reported that Flynn has “promised full cooperation to the Mueller team,” and will be an extremely valuable asset to those investigating Trump’s ties to Russia.
As the first and only official, so far, to have held formal office within the Trump administration, Flynn sets a precedent for the Mueller probe, which is investigating possible collusion between Trump’s campaign and Moscow throughout the 2016 election.
Flynn’s guilty plea has earned leniency from the judge in this case, and it is reported that he will not face trial, according to an AFP reporter in court. The retired lieutenant-general will serve no more than six months in prison.
Flynn has stated that his cooperation and plea deal “reflect a decision I made in the best interest of my family and of our country,” and it is obvious, with this statement, that he feared repercussions from Trump’s administration if he were to give them up at the time.
As Flynn was escorted from court by FBI agents, a number of disenfranchised Hillary Clinton supporters shouted “criminal” and “lock him up,” which echoed sentiments of the narrative Flynn led against Hillary Clinton during the convention for the Republican party, last year.
