The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooter has just been identified as 19-year-old Nicholas de Jesus Cruz. He was previously seen as a threat to the school, as math teacher Jim Gard told the Miami Herald.
“We were told last year that he wasn’t allowed on campus with a backpack on him,” Gard recalled. “There were problems with him last year threatening students, and I guess he was asked to leave campus.”
However, superintendent Robert Runcie claims he was unaware of any concerns the school had. “We received no warnings,” he said. “Potentially there could have been signs out there. But we didn’t have any warning or phone calls or threats that were made.”
Cruz’s Instagram page, though it only has a few posts, portrays a very troubled young man, and includes pictures of him holding automatic weapons and buying boxes of bullets. Cruz had two accounts:
The other account reveals the number of guns he had and his political affiliation.
Cruz is a Trump supporter.
“Makarov” is the name of a handgun. He’s also wearing Trump’s trademark “Make America Great Again” hat with an American Flag covering his face, showing the red and white stripes.
He also has several pictures of weapons.
Right now, conservatives will say it’s not the time to point fighters and call for change. It is. It’s been almost 19 years since Columbine, and we’ve only had more and more school shootings since. This isn’t a shocking tragedy. It was an avoidable one. The school knew Cruz was a threat last year, but these images, taken from less than a year ago, show that he was able to buy several military-grade weapons and ammunition. In the image of the bullets, he brags that he got the box for “30 bucks.”
And Trump won’t take any responsibility, even though he’s called for violence in several rallies. We don’t know Cruz’s motive yet, but we do know he supported the President.
Trump will probably call him a “very fine person” the way he did with the neo-Nazis in Charlottesville, Va, and with wives-abuser Rob Porter.
