The diabolically shrewd Donald Trump told each demographic precisely what he needed to say to win votes along the campaign trail.
Then, once it came time for him to deliver his promises, the real face of Trump was born. Now, millions of Trump voters are experiencing a nasty case of buyer’s remorse after investing their trust in a conman.
Senior Americans put their faith in Trump because he vowed not to touch Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. At the tail end of 2016, Trump and his band of Republicans pulled off their first significant legislative victory in the Trump era with their tax reform.
Several top Republicans, including House Speaker Paul Ryan, plan to use the tax bill momentum for “entitlement reform.” After speaking to an anonymous congressman, reporters passed along the news that the president “told a Republican member of Congress that he was willing to go after Social Security and other entitlement programs at the beginning of his second term.”
Deputy communications director for American Bridge, Andrew Bates, told Shareblue:
“When Donald Trump launched his campaign, he pledged to the American people that he would not cut Medicare or Social Security.”
He added, “Now, less than one year into his administration, we’re learning that as Trump tries to pass tax cuts for the wealthy that sell-out the middle class, he’s also having private conversations with members of Congress about breaking both of those major promises to the country.”
Americans must do everything in their power to ensure Donald Trump doesn’t make it to a second term because without the possibility of getting reelected influencing his decisions, gutting Social Security is only the tip of the iceberg.
